I’m so excited about our 7th Annual RUN FOR HIM RACE in memory of Bruce on Saturday, September 5, 2015… it’s always a great day. We are so blessed to be able to celebrate Bruce and glorify God each year. Nothing brings me more joy! As many of you know we usually sell a fundraiser shirt with Bruce’s quote “He died for me, I’ll live for Him.” We sell these shirts to raise awareness for the foundation and to raise funds for the Bruce Gilley Memorial Foundation (BGMF) scholarships enabling young people to go on Christian missionary trips and camps. This year we will do things a little different, but first I want to share my heart concerning the last 6 months of my life.

In October of this past year I found a lump in my breast and was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. It was devastating news. I had retired only a few months earlier and planned to spend more time promoting and working on the Bruce Gilley Memorial Foundation. The Foundation is growing and we were able to send more kids on mission than ever before. I fully thought I was on the road to achieving God’s plan for my life. I couldn’t believe that I would be spending the first year of retirement battling this dreaded disease.

I have to say, I was a bit angry at God for allowing this. I had a huge pity party and questioned Him more than once. Thankfully, I remained in the Word and each time He answered me with the perfect Truth. He’s done this on many occasions the last 10 years. He’s provided the perfect promise, direction and peace that could only come from Him. He’s so personal if we only give Him time spent in His Word! I’m continually in awe of our Savior! He has turned horrific news into another opportunity for me to share how mighty He is. I am fully convinced that I am cancer free. He has provided me with “peace that transcends all understanding”. I will spend the rest of the year finishing chemo and radiation, but God is faithful in walking me through each step of the journey.

That being said, I will get back to our fundraiser shirts. In addition to our regular black & blue fundraiser shirts that we will continue to sell, we will offer a new shirt with “LIVE” in pink ink to represent my journey this past year. A portion of the profits will go to the Livestrong Foundation, a non-profit that has personally helped me and helps thousands of others going through all types of cancer each year. We will use the proceeds to not only send young people out to share Jesus, but also to help in bringing awareness and finding a cure for this terrible disease.
